Shiv Sainiks attack Zee 24 office in Kolhapur
Special Correspondent
MUMBAI: Shiv Sainiks attacked the Zee 24 television office in Kolhapur late on Friday night, injured people and destroyed furniture, while a live telecast of a debate on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute was on. Mansoor Syed of the Karnataka-based Seema Rakshak Vedike was on the show along with Diwakar Raote, Sena leader, in Mumbai. The first segment was over when about 40 Sainiks attacked the office and beat up an associate of Mr. Mansoor Syed and attacked Deepak Shinde, bureau chief.
Talking to The Hindu over phone, Mr. Shinde said a huge mob that included Sena MLA Rajan Shirsagar barged in and beat up Mr. Sayyed's associate. Mr. Shinde sustained some blows.
The Sena was protesting alleged injustice to the Marathi-speaking people in the border areas of Karnataka.
The activists were also protesting against the ‘insult' to Sena chief Bal Thackeray in Karnataka, it is learnt. The mob damaged vehicles parked in the ground near the office.
