MUZAFFARPUR: A Bihar court on Saturday summoned Congress president Sonia Gandhi to appear before it on July 29 on a complaint that her depiction in posters in Uttar Pradesh in 2007 as Goddess Durga amounted to an “insult” to Hinduism.
Additional District and Sessions Judge A.K. Srivastava ordered the issue of the summons after hearing the complainant and senior advocate, Sudhir Kumar Ojha. He asked Ms. Gandhi to appear either in person or explain her position through her lawyer. He issued a separate summons to Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Rita Bahuguna and the Congress Muradabad district president to appear before the court on the same day. — PTI
