Chitradurga: Kites have always been objects of fascination for children. Holding on to one end of the thread while watching it flutter in the breeze is indeed a special moment. This jubilation only multiplies when a large number of students gather in an open field to fill the sky with their multi-coloured kites. For students of the Chitradurga-based Jnana Bharati Vidya Mandir, Saturday was an occasion to enjoy the annual kite festival here. The children assembled in the field near Chandravalli for the event. To encourage creativity, the school authorities had instructed them to make the kites at home. Although the school authorities invited guests for the formal inauguration, it appeared that the youngsters could barely wait for the lectures to end to release their motley kites into the sky. Within minutes, the sky was filled with multiple hues, with the children excited to see their kites reaching greater heights. The school authorities told The Hindu that they had been organising the kite festival for the last 32 years. They believed that such extra curricular activities made the children more active and encouraged creativity.
