Rejuvenate Vedic knowledge tradition: Srikrishna

BANGALORE: B.N. Srikrishna, Chairman, Five-Member Committee on Telangana, on Saturday called upon the people, especially the youths, to take up Vedic study, which was the repository of ancient Indian wisdom and intellectual tradition.

He was felicitating S.N.C. Raghunathacharya of Andhra Pradesh and Vasistha Narayana Jha of West Bengal at the national level and M.V. Sampathkumaracharya of Melkote, Ananthasharma Bhuvanagiri of Uttara Kannada district, S. Ramachandra Sastry and A. Haridasa Bhatta of Bangalore at the State levels for their contribution in the fields of research and spread of the Sanskrit language.

The function was organised by the Mysore Education Society, Prof. M.P.L. Sastry Education Foundation, and Vidyasagara Prof. M.P.L. Sastry Pratisthana on the occasion of the birth centenary of M.P.L. Sastry.

Dr. Jha, a scholar in Sanskrit and Urdu, who replied to the felicitation, said that after Independence,

Mr. Srikrishna, himself a Vedic scholar, said that there was rapid deterioration in promoting Indian tradition and the people had become prisoners of petty mindedness.

Telangana

Mr. Srikrishna, who refused to comment on the non-publication of the report on the Mumbai riots which he probed, said he was going to submit the report on the formation on Telangana before December 31.

Society secretary B.R. Seshadri Iyengar welcomed the gathering.

Society director A. Ramaswamy Iyengar proposed a vote of thanks.
