Hyderabad: Local boy M. Sree Rama Chandra has definitely made everyone sit up and listen to him in Indian Idol 5 and now, with the show nearing its final stages, playback singers from the twin cities are lending their support to Rama Chandra to win the contest.

“We are very proud of him and are happy to see that Rama Chandra has made it to the top five finalists. He has been proving himself week after week and has reached this stage,” said M. S. M. Prasad, Rama Chandra's father, during a press conference here on Sunday.

A group of young singers from the Telugu industry came forth to support Rama Chandra and requested people to vote for him. “I have known Rama Chandra for the last seven years as a singer and a close friend. Though his mother tongue is Telugu, he has been singing exceptionally well and competing hard,” said Krishna Chaitanya, his friend. Back home, Rama Chandra participated and won many singing competitions conducted by Telugu channels apart from being one of the top contestants in ‘Voice of India' and ‘Sye Singer's Challenge' to name a few.

“Singers such as Hemachandra and Karunya made it to the finals but couldn't win because of lack of support. A lot of people down South don't watch Hindi channels and therefore do not participate in the voting process, which helps the contestant win the competition,” said Deepu, a playback singer. Also, members of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board led by vice-president J.Pratap have urged people to vote for the city lad to help him win the contest.

SMS 52525

To vote for Sree Rama Chandra, sms ‘sreeram' to 52525. Voting lines will be open after the Indian Idol show aired at Sony Channel on Monday night till 8 a.m. the next day.
