Corrections and Clarifications

The “massive bombings in Guwahati and other places” happened on October 30, 2008. The twelfth paragraph of “Different strokes for different folks” (Editorial page, July 16, 2010) gave the date as October 3, 2008.

In a report “CCMB scientist finds two new bacteria in Arctic “ (July 17, 2010), the caption of the accompanying photograph had the word “cynobacteria” while the text had it as “cyanobacteria (blue green algae)”. The text is right. (The name “cyanobacteria” comes from the colour of the bacteria; Greek: kyanós = blue.)

In a report “Jundallah revenge attack kills 21” (“International” page, July 17, 2010), the caption of the accompanying AFP photograph said “Abdulbasit Rigi”, while it was “Abdolbaset Rigi” in the (Reuters) text. Most Arab media reports use the spelling “Abdulbasit Rigi”. Some other reports use “Abdolbasset Rigi”.

It is the policy of The Hindu to correct significant errors as soon as possible.
