Bus owners withdraw token strike plan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Private bus operators in the State have called off their token strike plan announced on Thursday following discussions they had with Transport Minister Jose Thettayil here on Wednesday.

Briefing reporters about the discussions he had with representatives of the Private Bus Operators Federation, Mr. Thettayil said their demands for setting up a permanent mechanism to study the problems facing the industry, revision in the student concession, fare hike in view of the increase in operational expenses and the entry of KSRTC buses into the routes allocated to them would be discussed at the Cabinet meeting on July 28. The federation leaders said they had not dropped the indefinite strike called from August 3.
