Move to sabotage caste-wise census alleged

Special Correspondent

KOCHI: The Samvarana Samudaya Munnani, a collective of backward communities and castes, has alleged that a move is on to sabotage the Central government's plan to take a caste-wise census.

The Munnani said this was under pressure from dominant castes that had all along opposed the reservation in education and employment for the backward sections of society.

The move to upstage the caste-wise census was being engineered by those political parties and politicians backed by the dominant castes, the Munnani alleged.

The executive committee of the Munnani took office at a meeting held here on Wednesday.

SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan is the president of the Munnani, while MES president Fazal Ghafoor is the general secretary.
