Coir cluster formed in Palakkad

PALAKKAD: K. Achuthan, MLA, has been elected president of the newly formed Palakkad Coir Cluster Society to implement various schemes of the Coir Board in the district. Coir Board chairman V.S. Vijayaraghavan said that coir clusters would be formed for the development of coir in areas where coconut was grown in large numbers.

The cluster society would set up service centres for the development of coir-based industries involving coconut farmers and entrepreneurs. The waste coconut husk would be collected and processed to make high-value coir products under the cluster covering the taluks of Palakkad, Alathur, Chittur and Mannarkkad, Mr. Vijayaraghavan said.
