MADURAI: For the benefit of small vendors, the Indian Oil Corporation will introduce 5-kg LPG cylinder soon. It will be a cylinder meant for commercial use and carry a ‘price advantage'. People running tea shops and similar small businesses will find it useful, according to D. Murali, Senior Area Manager, Madurai Area Office. Talking to ‘ The Hindu' here on Wednesday, he said that small vendors had expressed their difficulty in buying 19-kg commercial cylinders which are priced over Rs.1,000. They felt that it would be easy for them if low volume cylinders costing less were available. “The 5-kg cylinder will cost around Rs.350 and we are expecting the supplies from August. The logistics are being worked out to ensure their availability at all places.” Around 2,000 small cylinders may be required per month for the Madurai region that covers 10 districts. The office is awaiting instructions for implementing the ‘preferred time' delivery of cylinders at home as announced at the national level for the convenience of consumers, particularly when both husband and wife are employed.
