Evocative take on Kashmir

Lamhaa

Director Rahul Dholakia's latest venture Lamhaa attempts to unveil the drama of keeping alive the Kashmir issue by vested interests. Scripted by Rahul Dholakia and Raghav Dhar, the movie, an action thriller, looks at how a peaceful settlement is thwarted by corrupt army officers, crooked politicians, so-called spiritual heads and unscrupulous businessmen.

It is learnt that a major terror attack is in the offing in Kashmir. Officer Vikram (Sanjay Dutt) is roped in to unearth the clandestine operations. While Sanjay Dutt is restrained in his role, Bipasha Basu gives an impeccable performance. She carries off the day in the scene where she is brutally attacked by members of the Fatima brigade. Anupam Kher does a neat job, but Kunal Kapoor appears subdued. The cast also includes Vipin Sharma, Yashpal Sharma, Shernaz Patel, Tejaskumar Shah, Yuri Suri and Shalini Soni.

James Fowld's camera captures the breathtaking beauty of the valley and the pulse of a war-ravaged society. Sayeed Qadri's meaningful lyrics together with Mithoon's lilting music is a listening delight. The songs Main Kaun Hoonand Saajna, sung by Palash Sen and Mika Singh and Chinmayi respectively, are captivating and sync with the theme of the movie.

Lamhaa , produced by Bunty Walia and Jaspreet Singh, strikes a chord with the viewers.

G. Jayakumar
