Nomination system in Congress youth wings ends

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Working President D.K. Shivakumar on Friday said that office-bearers to the block and State units of the National Students Union of India would be elected in August and September respectively, discontinuing the nomination system.

Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Shivakumar said the enrolment of students from 770 colleges and 26 universities in the State would begin on August 18 and a week later, the election for students units in each institution would be completed. The election to the State unit of the NSUI would be in September.

Three leaders from the Youth Congress had conducted a talent search for induction into block and State units of the youth wing of the party, here a year ago. Unfortunately, no one was selected from among the several hundred who were interviewed for the posts.

This led to the AICC general secretary and MP Rahul Gandhi to decide to hold elections to the block and State units of the NSUI.
