Note of dissent: The TDP delegation comprising MP N. Nageswara Rao, MLAs E. Dayakar Rao, M. Venkateswar Rao and K. Srihari after they walked out of the all-party meeting on Babli issue, in Hyderabad on Friday.

HYDERABAD: The TDP stayed away from the all party meeting convened by Chief Minister K. Rosaiah as a preparatory for the proposed meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as the government “stuck to its stand that only one representative from each party will be allowed in the deliberations''.

The four-member TDP delegation comprising – MP Nama Nageswara Rao, MLAs Mandava Venkateswara Rao and E. Dayakar Rao and former Minister Kadiam Srihari – walked out of the Chief Minister's Office even before the deliberations commenced. In spite of repeated claims that they did not want to create any controversy over the issue, the TDP leaders evaded replies when asked why they insisted on the participation of all the four when the Government had clearly mentioned that one representative from each party would be allowed.

“Delegation means a group of more than one and former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy took a delegation of six TDP representatives to New Delhi on an earlier occasion,” was their reply to repeated queries from the reporters.

The TDP delegation which came with a note outlining their demands said the participation of Mr. Srihari and Mr. Venkateswara Rao would have helped the cause as both of them served as Major Irrigation Ministers in the past.

TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu defended the action of his party delegation claiming the government had imposed several restrictions on the meeting. Questioning the restrictions on the number of participants, he said he would register a protest if the same restrictions were applied during the meeting with Dr. Singh.
