TDP to withdraw candidates if Centre stops Maharashtra from going ahead with Babli

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday indicated that he may not campaign in the byeelections to the 12 Assembly constituencies in Telangana region on July 27, owing to paucity of time.

Responding to a question at a press conference, Mr. Naidu said that there was no time left as he would be leaving for Delhi to attend the all- party meeting on the issue of Babli and other projects with Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

He reiterated that the party would withdraw its candidates from the byeelections if the Prime Minister made a statement on stopping Maharashtra from going ahead with Babli and other projects.

The TDP leader welcomed the decision to cancel the lease on Bayyaram iron ore mines.

Demanding a ban on export of the iron ore, he wanted it to be confined to captive mining for the existing steel plants in view of growing domestic demand.
