West Godavari in trouble

VIJAYAWADA: West Godavari was struggling at 42 for five in reply to Guntur's 571 for nine declared at the end of the second day's play in the three-day ACA Central Zone u-19 inter-district tournament at Ongole on Saturday.

Resuming at 417 for four, Guntur's Sk. M Basha (77) and M. Surendra (65) helped their team post a mammoth total in 127 overs.

The scores: Guntur 571 for nine in 127 overs (Pathan Basha 150, K. Rajeev 124, Sk. M Basha 77, M. Surendra 65, Harshavardhan 52, Amareswara Rao three for 55) vs. West Godavari 42 for five in 21.2 overs .

Chess tournament

Krishna District Chess Association is conducting the district selection tournament for u-15 boys and girls at IGMC stadium here on July 27. Players born on or after January 1, 1995 are eligible. Four players from both categories will be selected to represent Krishna District in the State selections to be held at NTR Stadium, Gudivada from July 30. Contract D. Srihari, 94401 19775.
