KURNOOL: Collector Ramsankar Naik called upon farmers to shift to horticulture crops in view of changing food habits of public and urbanisation of society. Addressing a workshop on horticulture shops here on Saturday, he said due to lack of awareness in the post-harvest technology, most of the farmers were suffering losses. Around 30 per cent crop perished due to lack of storage facilities, he said. Horticulture Mission had earmarked Rs. 400 crore for promotion of horticulture crops in the district during the next five years. Last year, an amount of Rs. 18 utilised and this year some Rs. 123 crore was released. Onion and tomato farmers should adopt new technologies to overcome losses, he said. Assistant director of Horticulture Hanumanta Rao, DRDA Project Director Raghunath, NABARD General Manager Srivatsava were present.
