Semifinals set for thrilling finish

MADURAI: The semifinal between Madurai and Kancheepuram in the P.R. Thevar Trophy inter-District under-16 cricket tournament is set for a thrilling finish here on Monday.

Resuming at the overnight score of 73 for four, Kancheepuram was bowled out for 130, which accounted for a first innings lead of three runs. Madurai in its second innings made 145 for nine in the allotted 40 overs. Needing 143 off 40 overs for victory, Kancheepuram was 65 for five in 25 overs at stumps on the second day.

The scores: Semifinals: At Madurai: Madurai 127 & 145 for nine in 40 overs (J. Prasannavenkatesh 73 n.o., Deepak three for 59) vs. Kancheepuram 130 in 61.3 overs (Ajit Srinivas 30, Goutham Vinith five for 15) & 65 for five in 25 overs (U. Manikandan three for 18).

At Thiruvallur: Thiruvallur 283 in 88.3 overs and 26 for three in 13 overs vs. Salem 139 in 82.1 overs (P. Deepak Siddharth 25, A. Bharat 30, S. Nikil Sharma 35, B. Aditya three for 41).
