St. Joseph's women clinch ball badminton title

Chennai: St. Joseph's College of Engineering clinched the championship in the women's fives event in the Mohammed all-India senior invitation ball badminton tournament at Parankipettai.

In the first match St. Joseph's beat Vels Srinivasa College 29-25, and then beat Tiruvattiyur Club 29-10 and the Kerala State team 29-12. In the final league, it beat Alfa BBC, Karnataka 25-29, 29-17, 29-18.

St. Joseph's was awarded a cash prize of Rs.25000 and also won the best player of the award for Kanimozhi (Rs.1000).

It's St. Peter's vs MCTM

St. Peter's and MCTM will face off in the boys' final while Vidyodaya GHSS and Lady Sivasamy GHSS will contest the girl's final of the PBA inter-school basketball tournament after winning their respective semifinal matches on Sunday.

The results: Semifinals:

Boy's: St. Peter's 69 (Gopal 18) bt ICF (Rahul 17). MCTM 58 (Karthikeyan 17) bt Union Christian 22.

Girl's: Vidyodaya 43 (Roobine 14) bt Lady MCTM 28 (Vaishali 10). Lady Suvasamy 31 (Gona Bai 17) bt St. Joseph (Devi 13) .

Easy for seeds

Seeded players had it easy in the second round of the IOB State-ranking junior tournament, here on Sunday. At the end of round two, 26 players shared the lead in the state junior championship while 16 players found themselves in the lead with two points in the junior girl's category.

Important results (Round two): Boys: K. Narayanan (2) bt Shyam Sundar (1), N. Lokesh (2) bt R.M. Subramanian (1), N. Surendran (2) bt A. Harikrishnan (1), Harihara Sudan (2) bt Aaditya Jagadesh (1), Rajat Kumar (1) lost to S.S. Manigandan (2).

Girls: D. Trishla (1) lost to R. Bharathi (2), J. Saranya (2) bt R. Nanuja (1), R. Dharani Sree (1) lost to P. Nandhidhaa (2), J. Mohana Priya (2) bt R. Bhuvaneshwari (1), Michelle Catherina (2) bt R. S. Soundarya (1) .
