Dalit student can now pursue his MBBS course

SALEM: Indian Bank, Circle Office, Salem, issued provisional sanction letter for education loan to the Dalit student Mohanraj of Pothiampatti village in Taramangalam block in Salem district who got an admission to first year MBBS at the Salem Government Medical College.

The plight of the student, who got admission in a medical college on merit with a cut off mark of 196, was reported in The Hindu recently. The boy expressed his anguish since he could not meet out the expenses of the course since his family is in penury. They earn wages from coir units.

An official team from the Bank visited the village to assess the economic background of the boy and the family. K. Natarajan, General Manager (P and D, Credit Monitoring) handed over the letter to the boy in which DGM G Muthappabn, AGM E Albin David and Chief Manager R Nagarajan.

Many have come forward to help the boy to pursue his medical education.

A team from Gujarat also visited the village to assess his family's background so that the boy could be helped.

Meanwhile, M Revathi, daughter of a poor weaver in Attayampatti near here and who got admission to first year MBBS in Kanyakumari Government Medical College also had started receiving assistance from various quarters to pursue her education. A businessman Jaishankar from Mantharakuppan in Cuddalore district gave her money too meet the educational expenses for her first year studies.
