AAI enters semifinals

VISAKHAPATNAM: Last year's winner Airports Authority of India entered the men's semifinals of the BAI's all-India inter-institution badminton championships, beating Auditor General of India 3-0 in the inaugural event, at the Port indoor stadium here on Wednesday evening.

Saurabh Kapoor dropped the first game to M. Jerry Martin in the first singles but B. Sumeeth Reddy won the next singles easily and then partnered B. Sai Praneeth to clinch the tie in the first doubles.

FCI too made the last four in the nine-team draw, beating Air Force Sport Control Board 3-0.

The three-team women's event will be held on Thursday.

Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust Ajeya Kallam inaugurated the championship. BSNL General Manager P. Nagaraju, Secretary of VPT D. Naresh Kumar and advisor to VDBA T.S.R. Prasad were present.

Men's team championship: Q uarterfinals: Airports Authority of India bt Auditor General of India office 3-0 (Suarabh Kapoor bt M. Jerry Martin 18-21, 21-11,21-14; B. Sumeeth Reddy bt S.S. Khannan 21-14,21-14; B. Sai Praneeth and Sumeeth Reddy bt T. Maran and Jerry Martin 21-18,21-12).
