KOCHI: Debutant director Vineeth Srinivasan feels that lack of good scripts is the major problem for the Malayalam film industry and not the supremacy of the ‘superstars'.

Addressing a press conference at the Ernakulam Press Club on Wednesday, the singer-turned-director, who shot to fame with his flick ‘Malarvadi Arts Club', said the advent of new themes and new directors has ushered in a refreshing change in the Malayalam film industry.

“The situation is favourable for young directors. The Malayalam film industry needs such movies combined with the latest technology,” he said.

Pointing out that being a writer is more difficult than becoming a director, Mr. Srinivasan said he had taken lots of pain in completing the script for Malarvadi Arts Club. “I had narrated it to my father (noted actor Srinivasan) who suggested a lot of changes initially. I worked on the script several times and finally he was satisfied,” Mr. Srinivasan said.

Asked about his father's response after watching the movie, Mr. Srinivasan said he was tense about his reaction. But he liked the movie and called me to convey his wishes.

The young director, who loves watching the movies of Stanley Kubrick, said that precise homework had helped in completing the movie, without much hiccups. “We had a lot of rehearsals before canning each shot. I received a lot of support and encouragement from the movie's producer, Dileep,” he said.

Mr. Srinivasan said that he would not direct any movies for the next two years while concentrating more on his singing and other talents. The newcomers in the movie including Aju Varghese, Bhagat Manuel, Purushu, Nivin Pauli, and Shravan said that they were lucky to have teamed up for such an exciting start in the Malayalam film industry.
