Huge centuries by Vaibhav, Chaitanya

HYDERABAD: A double century by G.V. Vaibhav (200) and century by Chaitanya Reddy (176) helped Continental score 523 for seven against Cambridge XI on the first day of the A-Division (two-day) league cricket championship match here on Wednesday.

The scores: A-Division (two-day) league: Galaxy 249 (Santosh Reddy 33, Ashok 36, Avinash Reddy 34, R. Sarvajith 54, Naresh three for 67) vs Gemini Friends 13 for one.

Telangana 102 (Vishnu Chaitanya five for 30) lost to Khalsa 104 for two (Ranjith Kumar 30, Akshat 30 not out).

Continental 523 for seven (G. V. Vaibhav 200, Chaitanya Reddy 176, Sai Venkatesh 54, Mehar Kiran four for 117) vs Cambridge XI.

VST 133 (Asifuddin 46, Ahmed Aksari 41, Ravi Teja five for 52, Ramesh four for 63) vs SA Amberpet 66 for seven (Ahmed Aksari five for 28).

MCC 234 for five (Vikram 33, Bhargav Rayudu 79,Vikas 38 not out, Syed Muzzamil three for 107) vs CCOB.

HCA League cricket

Hyderabad Cricket Association will organise the A-Division (one-day) league championship from August 1 at different grounds in the twin cities.

The draw copies are displayed on the notice board of HCA office at Gymkhana Grounds and the teams are asked to register the players at the above venue immediately.

Narrow win for DMRL

DMRL scored a 2-1 win over City College Old Boys in the Rahim Centenary football league championship at Gymkhana Grounds here.

After a barren first-half, CCOB took the lead in the 51 {+s} {+t} minute through Essa Jr. who headed a cross from Shoeb to find the target.

Within six minutes, DMRL equalised through striker Zama.

In the closing stages of the match, CCOB defender Arun tripped Nithyanand of DMRL in the penalty area forcing referee Krishna to award a penalty which was duly converted by Mehmood to clinch the issue in favour of DMRL.

Norman nominated

Norman Issac, a FIBA Commissioner from Hyderabad, has been nominated as Commissioner for the third FIBA-Asia Cup basketball championship to be held in Beirut from August 7 to 15.
