THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State unit on Thursday demanded a judicial inquiry into the alleged deals in permitting sale of bogus lotteries in the State during the past 10 years and the alienation of tribal land. Party spokesman George Kurian alleged that both the Central and State governments were not willing to ban online lotteries because the Congress as well as the CPI(M) had received money from the lottery mafia. The CPI(M) was planning to undermine the upcoming elections to the local bodies using money from the mafia. The Congress had used money power similarly in the last Lok Sabha elections. It was the common man who was being cheated. The spokesman said the official-level inquiry announced by the government into the alienation of tribal land in Attappady was inadequate since officials and political leaders were involved in facilitating encroachment of tribal land. Alienation of tribal land across the State should be probed. The BJP would stage a march to the Palakkad collectorate on August 3 to press its demand for a judicial inquiry into the land issue. Mr. Kurian said the BJP would take out marches to Central government offices in all districts except Thiruvananthapuram on Friday.
