Praveen Kumar to be Chief Electoral Officer

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Election Commission has cleared the name of Praveen Kumar, an officer of the 1987 batch of Indian Administrative Service, for the post of Chief Electoral Officer.

A formal order will be issued by the State government shortly.

The present incumbent Naresh Gupta is retiring from service on July 31.

The search had been going on for some time. The Commission zeroed in on Mr. Kumar after scrutinising the second panel of names submitted by the State government.

The 49-year-old Kumar, who hails from Hazaribag of Jharkhand, is presently Secretary (Expenditure) in the State Finance Department.
