Nimmy keeps winning

THRISSUR: Nimmy A. George posted her third successive victory in the Kerala State women's chess championship at the Banerji Club here on Saturday evening.

The top-seeded Nimmy, who missed the State championship last year as she had to write her college exams, defeated Thrissur's C.P. Athira in the third round and is the championship's lone leader with two rounds to go.

Meanwhile, defending champion Anjana Krishna drew her third-round game against her Thiruvananthapuram city-mate Meenu Rajendran.

The results (third round): C.P. Athira (2) lost to Nimmy A. George (3), A. Niji (2.5) drew with Aswathy Balagopal (2.5), Anjana Krishna (2.5) drew with Meenu Rajendran (2.5), Bhagya Jayesh (1.5) drew with A. Neenu (1.5), R. Aparna (2) bt S.G. Archana (1), Sneha Merine Shaji (1) lost to Alka Raj (2), S.L. Parvathy (1) lost to P.J. Silja (2), K. Pooja (1) lost to Hilmi Praveen (2), S.G. Anjana (1) drew with Oshin Anil Kumar (1.5), Aiswarya Raj (1) bt K. Prameena Prathap (.5).

Second round: Nimmy George bt R. Aparna, A. Neenu lost to A. Niji, Meenu Rajendran bt S.L. Parvathy, Alka Raj lost to C.P. Athira, Aswathy Balagopal bt Sneha Merine Shaji .
