Yechury wants education reforms to be methodical

Special Correspondent

MYSORE: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) here on Saturday has demanded a radical change in the country' education policy to ensure education for all as prescribed in the ‘Directive Principles of the State Policy'.

CPI(M) Politbureau member Sitaram Yechury, who inaugurated the four-day “Study Camp of South Indian States” of the Students Federation of India, said there was an urgent need for methodical transformation of the education policy to guarantee education for all.

Citing country's poor statistics in terms of education, he said of 100 students, 77 could not reach class 12. Although the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government was keen on education reforms, the policy envisaged would remain only on paper unless the Centre pumped in sufficient funds. “The CPI(M) is not against reform, but it is opposing the pattern of reform which will promote crony capitalism,” he said.
