Popularise organic farming, says ZP member

Staff Correspondent

Bijapur: The Government should promote organic farming and spread more awareness about it among the farmers, said zilla panchayat member Panchappa Kalburgi.

Inauguration

He was speaking after inaugurating Krishi Utsav at Hitnalli farms here on Saturday. The utsav was organised by the district administration, zilla panchayat and the Department of Agriculture.

According to Mr. Kalburgi, with every passing year as the area under farming is reducing it has become necessary for farmers to cultivate high-yielding crops so that the increasing demand can be met.

He spoke at length on the lack of awareness on the use of fertilizers among farmers. He said, “It is the responsibility of the policy makers in the country to do some serious planning and create awareness on the use of fertilizers and organic farming so that there is no confusion among farmers and they get the guidance needed at the right time”, he added. Mr. Kalburgi also urged the Government to stop issuing permits to establish liquor shops in rural areas.
