Industries Minister to lay foundation stone Project estimated to cost Rs.25 crore KOZHIKODE: Industries Minister Elamaram Karim will lay the foundation stone for a rural apparel park being developed by the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) at Thiruvambadi on Tuesday. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Kinfra general manager K. Sudhakaran said the function to be held at North Karassery, near Mukkam, would be presided over by George M. Thomas, MLA. M.I. Shanavas, MP, would be the chief guest. The park, which is aimed at inviting investments and creating employment for local people, is the first of the five such ventures envisaged by the government. The Rs.25-crore project will provide direct employment to 300 women and indirect employment to 700 others. The land required for the park, at least three acres, will be provided free by the respective local bodies of the area. The government will extend subsidy for the training expenses of labourers required for the unit. The park would bring economic and social progress to the people in the rural areas, said George M. Thomas MLA, who was present at the press meet along with Kinfra spokesman K.N. Srikumar.
