Patna: The ruling JD(U) in Bihar on Saturday received a setback when its senior leader Virendra Kumar Choudhary joined opposition RJD. Choudhary, former vice-chairman of the Bihar Legislative Council, took membership of the RJD along with his supporters in presence of party chief Lalu Prasad. State RJD chief Abdul Bari Siddiqui and secretary-general Ramkripal Yadav, an MP, were also present. Welcoming Choudhary into the RJD fold, Prasad said it would strengthen the party in the Mithilanchal region. He appealed to all those who had deserted his party and joined others to return, saying “we are ready to accept them with open heart.” The development comes ahead of the Assembly elections in the State due in November. -- PTI
