St. Joseph's wins title

CHENNAI: St. Joseph's COE defeated Panimalar 25-21, 25-18 in the women's final of the Aircel State-level inter-collegiate volleyball tournament at Jaigopal Garodia GHSS on Saturday.

The results: Women (semifinals): Panimalar bt MOP Vaishnav 25-17, 25-23; St. Joseph's bt Ethiraj 25-21, 25-13; IIIrd place: Ethiraj bt MOP Vaishnav 25-21, 25-20.

Men (league): Sathyabama bt Loyola 25-23, 25-18; Adithinar (Tiruchendur) bt Vel's 25-27, 25-19, 25-19 .

Ritwik, Nitya triumph

Ritwik Anand got the better of Harish Ramakrishnan 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 to claim the Taxsmile AITA under-18 talent series tennis tournament here on Saturday. Nitya Raj routed Preeti Ujjini 6-0, 6-1 to claim the title in the girl's under-18 category.

The results: Finals: Boys: Under-18: Ritwik Anand bt Harish Ramakrishnan 7-6, 4-6, 7-6; Under-16: S. Sidharth bt S.D. Prajwal Dev 6-3, 6-2; Girls: Under-18: Nithya Raj Babu Raj bt Preeti Ujjini 6-0, 6-1; Under-16: Lavanya Saravanan bt Tanushree Palanivel 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 .

Niveditha sizzles

Niveditha pumped in 13 goals as Ethiraj College thrashed S.S. Shashun Jain 20-0 in the college section of the Chennai District women's hockey schools/colleges league at the SDAT-Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here on Friday. The other scorers were Kalaomathi (2), Yuvarani (2), Selvi (1) and Ruby (1) and Mythili (1).
