GITAM organises meet on emotional intelligence

Special Correspondent

‘Effective leaders use this skill every day'

VISAKHAPATNAM: GITAM Institute of Management organised a two-day management development program (MDP) on emotional intelligence for organisational effectiveness.

Studies showed that effective leaders use more emotional intelligence competencies every day than others in leadership positions. Emotional intelligence was defined as a set of competencies that derive from a neural circuitry emanating in the limbic system. These competencies involve self awareness and self management. Emotional intelligence also includes social awareness. The central theme of this programme focuses on helping managers identify areas for behaviour change, thus giving them opportunities to practice new habits real time, according to a press release. Dean and Principal GIM K. Siva Rama Krishna inaugurated the programme. The key resource persons for the programme were Prof. K. Ashok and Dr. B. Nalini of GIM. The sessions also aim to explicate the art of managing emotions and stress. Some of the key participants of this two day program were from the Singareni Colleries, Kothagudam; Central Coal fields, Ranchi; Visakhapatnam Steel Plant; Visakhapatnam Port Trust; Dredging Corporation of India and Acclaris.  The program not only helps one to understand the components and implications of EI but also give an insight into one's strengths and weaknesses.
