Bidar
Bidar: Above average rainfall has brought cheer to farmers in Bidar district. Experts say this will help crop production in the district, unlike last year when Bidar suffered a drought. Bidar has received over 550 mm of rainfall during the first two months of the monsoon, as against the average of 500 mm. However, rainfall in Aurad has been below normal. “A slight increase in rain in most parts of the district is good for crops,” says farm scientist Ravi Deshmukh. “This will help improve the vegetative growth and fruition process of crops. However, increase in rain has hampered the process of de-weeding. Crops will suffer if the heavy rains continue,” he cautions. Farmers here have sown soya bean on 55,000 hectares this year. Red gram has been sown on 55,234 hectares, black gram on 38,452 hectares, green gram on 33,930 hectares, oil seeds on 56,073 hectares, and other crops on 2.11 lakh hectares. Sugarcane crop is spread over 33,567 hectares.
