Timothy jolts Viraj

KOCHI: P.V. Timothy, a very popular player on the veterans' tennis circuit, made a stunning move in a very different sport at the Regional Sports Centre here on Sunday evening. After losing the first frame, the unseeded Timothy bounced back smartly to jolt the fourth-seeded Viraj Ruparel 3-1 and enter the men's semifinals of the Kerala State senior snooker championship.

It was his maiden entry into the final-four stage in snooker at this level.

Easy for Atit

Meanwhile, the host RSC's defending champion Atit B. Shah defeated his club-mate P. Vinod in straight frames and also made the last-four stage.

Earlier, in billiards, the semifinal line-up was confirmed with top-seeded Atit Shah, Akhil Johnson (both Ernakulam) and Munnar KDH Club's S.A.K. Jailany making the grade. Former champion Mohan George had booked his berth on Saturday.
