‘It is squandering public money on such aimless conferences' DAVANGERE: The Davangere District Congress Committee has asked the BJP for whose benefit the Sadhana Samavesha is being organised in Davangere on Monday. It criticised the BJP for “squandering public money on such aimless and useless conferences”. Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, general secretary of the DCC D. Basavaraj and president of the district Youth Congress Dinesh K. Shetty said that there should be a definite purpose for organising an event. The Sadana Samavesha was organised to counter the Congress padayatra, they alleged. They said that the Congress padayatra, which was supported by writers, intellectuals and eminent personalities from different walks of life, was organised to put an end to illegal mining in the State as well as teach a lesson to the Reddy brothers. No one in the BJP had sympathy for the Reddy brothers, Mr. Basavaraj claimed. They alleged that all hotel rooms in Bellary had been booked on August 8 and 9 by supporters of the Reddy brothers in order to trouble the Congress leaders who were on a padayatra to Bellary. The Congress would not be discouraged by such “cheap tactics”. They said that the Congress leaders would stay in temples or dharamshalas if boarding facilities were not available. The former president of the city corporation K.G. Shivakumar was present.
