Government to encourage self-employment

Staff Correspondent

Hubli: Minister for large and medium industries Murugesh Nirani has assured Rs. 10 crore grants to set up a permanent mega industrial exhibition centre in Hubli.

Responding to the plea by the Karnatak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) office-bearers during Founders Day celebrations here on Sunday, Mr. Nirani promised more funds for the same project, if required.

On the occasion, he said the Cabinet had given its assent to two food-processing units each worth Rs. 10 crore in Bagalkot and Dharwad.

While the Mahindra and Mahindra had agreed to set up their unit at Belgaum, one earth moving machine manufacturing company has come forward to set up a Rs. 500-crore unit near Hubli.

The Hero Honda's two-wheeler manufacturing unit project was delayed because the company was contemplating increasing the production capacity from one to two lakh vehicles per year. The project was likely to be executed within 18 months, he added.

The State Government's “Udyami Aagu Udyoga Kodu” rural entrepreneurship development scheme would be launched on August 15. Under this project, the youth with entrepreneurial qualities in rural areas would be selected for training to start their own business. Candidates who wish to explore opportunities in the entrepreneurial sector would be provided three-month training and information about industries and credit facility available would be given to them. In the first phase, the scheme would be launched in Gulbarga, Mysore, Bangalore (rural and urban) and Belgaum. Later, it would be extended to all the districts. Thirty candidates will be chosen from each district for the training programme, he added.
