BANGALORE: Opposing acquisition of farm land and seeking additional compensation for farmers who have lost land in Devanahalli, Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) jointly with Land Acquisition Struggle Committee and Karnataka Prantha Krishi Karmikara Sangha will stage a protest on Tuesday in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner (Bangalore Rural) in Devanahalli. Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, KPRS State president Maruti Rao Manpade said that the Government had not given adequate compensation to farmers while acquiring land in Devanahalli for the international airport project. He urged the Government to give a compensation of Rs. 50 lakh an acre for farmers of 12 villages, including in Arisinakunte, Bavapura and Gangamuddanahalli. “A majority of farmers in these villages had got a compensation Rs. 5 lakh an acre, while farmers of Mylahalli were paid Rs. 35 lakh for an acre,” he said. Mr. Manpade said that over 12,000 acres of cultivable land in 29 villages of Devanahalli and Doddaballapur taluks are being acquired for proposed IT-BT Park, while about 5,000 acres is sufficient to take up this project. “We urge the Government not to acquire excess land without consent of farmers,” he said.
