I'M WITH YOU:Actor Pooja Gandhi taking part

Bangalore: Senior citizens joined hands with students and young professionals in the Pro-life 9.9 K Marathon here on Sunday to fight female infanticide.

T-shirt clad, enthusiastic participants urged the authorities concerned to take constructive measures to stop abortion.

Santhome Youth Association, in association with various organisations, organised the marathon that was aimed at preventing female infanticide and creating awareness on it.

Cricketer Robin Uthappa flagged off the marathon at Dharmaram College near Christ University around 6 a.m. Actor Pooja Gandhi and others lauded the participants.

The marathon passed through Diary Circle, Bannerghatta Road, BTM Layout, Silk Board, and Madivala and culminated at the Dharmaram College.

Women and children in the vicinity of Hosur Road too joined the marathon and lent support to the participants. They displayed placards against killing female foetus and requested the Union and State Governments to take appropriate measures to stop abortion.

Speaking to The Hindu, Pooja Gandhi said: “Abortion is a social evil and all should fight female infanticide. There are thousands of deaths in India every day due to abortion.

“The child in the womb has heartbeat and is alive from the moment it is conceived. Killing a child in the womb is a gross violation of human rights.”
