Vizag Humour Club hogs the limelight

VIJAYAWADA: Songs, comedy skits, a kathak performance and a magic show contributed to an enjoyable and lively morning in Tummalapallivari Kshetrayya Kalakshetram on Sunday, as various young artistes performed to their best on the concluding day of Sumadhura Kala Niketan's three-day competition of humorous playlets.

A mark in music

Young singers D. Harini, D. Mrudhu Ravali, Neha, C. Srilatha and Srinivasa Rajasekhar crooned some of the popular Telugu and Hindi songs.

Incidentally, these singers carved a niche for themselves by making a mark in the music shows organised by television channels.

Songs from films like ‘Malleswari' (old), ‘Dasavatharam' and ‘1942 – A Love Story' sung by the youngsters kept the audience in a good mood.

Chalapathi from Kakinada, a former bank employee known for his parody songs, had the audience in splits with his 20-minute-long performance by mixing film songs with other forms of music such as folk, bhangra, classical and mythological. Young Dharani made the audience take note of her talent in Kathak with a fine performance using brass plates as props.

Award presented

The icing on the cake was the comedy skits staged by artistes of Vizag Humour Club, formed by film actor Raavi Kondala Rao.

“We believe in clean comedy. The themes in a majority of the skits that we perform occur in our day to day lives,” said Raavi Kondala Rao.

The evening session witnessed four playlets – ‘Pelli Chesi Choopistham', ‘Chitthaginchandi', ‘Gooba Guyyimandhi' and ‘Don't Worry Be Happy'.

Popular film and stage artiste L.B. Sriram was conferred the Jandhayala memorial award.
