Vijay, Trotters register wins

Chennai: The third and last day of round five of the TNCA I division league matches saw Vijay CC and Globe Trotters register outright wins, here on Sunday.

The effort of the day came elsewhere, however, as Malolan Rangarajan snared eight wickets in Alwarpet's second innings to take his match tally to eleven, on a day in which Young Stars ensured that they did not let slip the advantage of the first innings lead. R. Srinivasan stroked his way to eighty for Alwarpet in the drawn match.

In an encounter whose balance wasn't decided until the final day, a crucial seventh-wicket association between Ashwin Venkatraman (74) and M.P. Rajesh (59 n.o.) handed Aruna a three-run first innings lead against IOB. Starting the day 102 runs behind with four wickets in hand, Aruna managed to turn the contest around, pocketing five points for having gone ahead in the first essay.

India Pistons did not let Indian Bank's big first innings total (413 for nine decl.) deter it as it went on to overhaul it with the loss of just five wickets, thanks in main to opener R. Prashanth (113). Contributions came in from across the batting line-up with Martin Sanjeev (80), M.R. Srinivas (51), Thabaarak Baik (69 n.o.) and Ganapathi Chandrashekar (41 n.o.) chipping in.

Hemang Badani pressed on from his overnight score of 97 to notch up an unbeaten 156 as Grand Slam chose to consolidate on its first innings lead in the match against Jolly Rovers. After declaring at 413, Grand Slam gave itself 69 overs to bowl Rovers out, but could prise out only four wickets — all of which were picked up by Suresh Kumar — as the match ended in a draw.

At SRMC (Turf): Alwarpet 123 and 251 in 104 overs (R. Srinivasan 80, Malolan Rangarajan eight for 84) drew with Young Stars 196. Points: Young Stars 5, Alwarpet 2.

At MAC: IOB 210 and 73 for no loss in 23 overs (Robert Fernandez 54 n.o.) drew with Aruna CC 213 in 83.4 overs (Ashwin Venkatraman 74, M.P. Rajesh 59 n.o., Joel Joseph four for 55). Aruna CC 5, IOB 2.

At Murugappa: Parry's 97 and 115 in 46.3 overs (J. Kaushik five for 26) lost to Vijay CC 299 for six decl. Vijay CC 8, Parry's 0.

At Pachaiyappa's: Falcon CC 77 and 142 in 66.4 overs (Y. Venugaopal Rao five for 34) lost to Globe Trotters 182 and 38 for two in 7.4 overs. Globe Trotters 8, Falcon 0.

At CPT-IP: Indian Bank 413 for nine decl. drew with India Pistons 414 for five in 104.2 overs (R. Prashanth 113, M.R. Srinivas 51, K. Martin Sanjeev 80, Ganapathi Chandrashekar 41 n.o., Thabaarak Baik 69 n.o.). India Pistons 5, Indian Bank 2.

At RKM-Viveka: Jolly Rovers 184 and 180 for four in 69 overs (K.H. Gopinath 47, C. Hemanth Kumar 49 n.o., S. Suresh Kumar four for 68) drew with Grand Slam 413 for eight decl. in 99 overs (K. Shree Vasudeva Das 83, Hemang Badani 156 n.o., J.R. Madanagopal 77). Grand Slam 5, Jolly Rovers 2.

Sujay scalps eight

Sujay Bethan's eight-wicket haul was the highlight of Classic CC's 61-run win over Lucas TVS in a IV division match of the TNCA-Thiruvallur DCA league here on Sunday.

IIIrd div.: Thiruthani 93 in 27.3 overs (R. Victor 33, N. Bala Subramaniam five for 22, R. Vignesh Kiran three for 12) lost to United 94 for seven in 27.2 overs (E. Ganesh 38, R. Victor three for 18).

Pattabiram CA 189 for seven in 23 overs (D. Venkatakrishnan 46, R. Sabaorish 43, D. Senthil Sudharsan 35) bt IEC 162 for eight in 23 overs (S. Vijaya Kumar 40, Sabari 35, B. Haresh three for 42).
