PANAJI: The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), in collaboration with SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will hold a seminar on “Economic Freedom in South Asia: A catalyst for Socio Economic Development” on Tuesday and another on “Trade Facilitation: A catalyst for workable SAFTA” on Wednesday in Goa. A large business delegation comprising captains of industries from all SAARC countries would be participating in these seminars. The seminar on “Economic Freedom” will dwell upon the beneficial effects of freedom to produce, consume and to trade any goods and services acquired without the use of force. It would stress on the rules of law, property rights and freedom of economic initiatives which, in turn, would promote economic growth, poverty reduction and free market economy, said a release issued by FICCI Secretary Manish Mohan on Monday. The seminar on “Trade Facilitation” will be inaugurated by Goa Governor Shivinder Singh Sidhu. The seminar would focus on inadequate trade infrastructure and transaction cost of doing business in South Asia. It will further identify the number of constraints in terms of trade facilitation measure and would suggest some broad policy outlines with regard to transportation linkages, investment in infrastructure, and transit agreements in south Asia, said the release.
