Kumbala panchayat being governed on communal lines: BJP
|
Kasaragod: Accusing the Indian Union Muslim League of governing the Kumbala grama panchayat on ‘communal lines,' the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday threatened to launch an agitation against the move to name the new office building after former party chief the late Panakkad Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal. “The move is a clear instance of governance on communal lines by the ruling Muslim League and the BJP would launch an agitation against such a proposal,” BJP Manjeshwaram Mandalam president Suresh Kumar Shetty told a press conference here.
The office building, constructed using public money, could not be named after a leader who had not been an elected representative of the people and the Congress party's ‘tacit' support was a ‘matter of shame,' Mr. Shetty said. The BJP will not allow it to materialise at any cost, he added.
The BJP would intensify its agitation if the ruling Indian Union Mulsim League moved ahead with its proposal, Mr. Shetty warned.
