Park expected to generate 25,000 jobs It will have research-oriented activities too Kozhikode: Finance Minister T. M. Thomas Isaac, on Monday, laid the foundation stone for the Advanced Technology Park, which will come up under the partnership of Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) and the Infrastructure Kerala Ltd. (InKEL), at Ramanattukara here. The project is expected to be completed in five years. In his inaugural address, Dr. Isaac said that companies like InKEL must strive to generate more resources from the NRKs for developmental purposes. “The limited revenue from taxes alone will not be sufficient to meet Kerala's increasing requirements,” Dr. Isaac said. Delivering the presidential address, Industries Minister Elamaram Karim said political parties should come together to support novel industrial ventures, which will create jobs. “Propaganda that companies like InKEL and Kinfra are supporting private entrepreneurs for profit is completely baseless,” he added. Mr. Karim said InKEL was getting huge support from the NRKs for industrial ventures in the State. The Minister promised that the works of Kannur International Airport would begin in November and the first phase would be completed in a year. The park will house a knowledge park that will facilitate industrial production and research-oriented activities in electronics, micro-electronics, biotechnology, avionics, nanotechnology and pharmaceuticals. G.C. Gopala Pillai, Managing Director of InKEL and M. Ramnath, Managing Director of Kinfra, said the expected cost for the project is Rs.9,000 crore. Coming up in 85 acres, it would create 25,000 direct employment opportunities and 30,000 indirect ones, they said.
