St. Xavier's and Jeppiaar advance

CHANGANASSERY: Chennai's Jeppiaar Engineering College along with Aluva's St. Xavier's, Kollam's SN and host Assumption entered the semifinals of the Assumption College Diamond Jubilee all-India women's inter-collegiate basketball tournament here on Monday evening.

The results (quarterfinals):

Assumption, Changanassery bt St. Mary's, Thrissur 54-25; Jeppiaar, Chennai bt Govt. Brennen, Thalassery 65-41; St. Xavier's, Aluva bt SRM, Chennai 56-50; SN, Kollam bt St. Joseph's Engineering College, Chennai 58-24. Pre-quarterfinals: St. Xavier's, Aluva bt Alphonsa, Pala 56-46 .

St. Thomas wins

At Thiruvananthapuram, St. Xavier's College, Thumba defeated Subash FC, Palayam 2-0 in the Thiruvananthapuram District ‘B' division football league at the Medical College ground on Monday.

In another match, St. Thomas FC defeated Jaihind FC, Puthenthope 2-0. In ‘D' division at the Central stadium, Rudra FC and Udaya Sports Club played out a goalless draw.

Mohan, Akhil advance

At Kochi, former champion Mohan George and the second-seeded Akhil Johnson marched into the men's semifinals of the 51st Kerala State senior snooker championship at the Regional Sports Centre here on Monday evening.

Mohan defeated his RSC-clubmate Hussein Cochinwala, last year's junior runner-up, in straight frames while State junior champion Akhil Johnson, also from the host club, beat Coronation Club's Ashok Mahawar in three frames.

The results (quarterfinals): Mohan George (RSC, Kochi) bt Hussein Cochinwala (RSC) 46-26, 50-43, 69-39; Akhil Johnson (RSC) bt Ashok Mahawar (Coronation Club, Mattancherry) 42-41, 59-34, 57-29. Pre-quarterfinals: Mohan George bt Abraham Varghese (KDH Club, Munnar) 72-9, 76-9, 60-38 .
