Salem: A superb bowling spell by right-arm off-spinner G. Gowtham (six for 7) enabled Thiruvarur score a 58-run win over Thanjavur in a low-scoring first round clash of the TNCA under-14 inter-district cricket tournament here on Monday. Earlier, Kishore Kumar pushed Thiruvarur on the back-foot with a splendid five-wicket haul. But, Thiruvarur replied strongly through Gowtham and bundled out the opposition for a paltry 46 for a comfortable win. The scores: Thiruvarur 104 in 30 overs (Kishore Kumar five for 26) bt Thanjavur 46 (G. Gowtham six for 7); Pudukottai 201 in 50 overs (Santhosh Kumar 49, M. Karthik five for 28) bt Sivaganga 59 in 18.2 overs (Balaji four for 20, Santhosh Kumar three for 19) .
