Wrestlers' plea dismissed
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday dismissed a petition by women wrestlers challenging their exclusion from trials for selection of wrestlers to take part in the Commonwealth Games here in October.
Justice S. Muralidhar dismissed the petition filed by Sonika Kaliraman and three others, holding that there was no arbitrariness on the part of the Wrestling Federation of India.
Sonika is the daughter of the famous Delhi wrestler Master Chandgi Ram.
The petitioners had taken the plea that they had a good track record yet they were not called for trials. They had challenged the selection process describing it as unfair.
Justice Muralidhar said the Federation made the selection on the basis of the players' current, not past, performances.
