Pilgrimage: High Court given four months time

Legal Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday declined to interfere with an interim order of the Andhra Pradesh High Court staying a G.O. granting subsidy to Christians for pilgrimage to Jerusalem, Bethlehem and the proposed subsidy for Manasarovar yatra for Hindus.

A Bench of Justice P. Sathasivam and Justice B.S. Chauhan told the counsel for Andhra Pradesh government and senior counsel M.N. Krishnamani for the respondents that “we don't want to interfere with the High Court order as it is only an interim order”.

Observations

In a brief order disposing of the SLP, the Bench asked the High Court to dispose of the main writ petitions in four months. The Bench made it clear that the observations made by the Division Bench in the interim order were only for the purposes of disposal of the interim applications and the writ petitions should be disposed of in accordance with law.
