Janardhana Poojary Bangalore: The former Union Minister B. Janardhana Poojary on Monday advised the Bharatiya Janata Party not to criticise and belittle the Central Bureau of Investigation, which has probed even cases filed against the former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and P.V. Narasimha Rao and former Deputy Prime Minister and senior BJP leader L.K. Advani in the past. Fitting examples Mr. Poojary told presspersons that the then Congress government had ordered a CBI inquiry into the corrupt practices of Communications Minister Sukhram, culminating in his conviction. The former Prime Ministers such as V.P. Singh, H.D. Deve Gowda and A.B. Vajpayee had also ordered investigation of cases by the CBI. The conviction rate was 70 per cent with CBI investigations, while it was 43 per cent when the State Government did the job, he added. He said he was not averse to the CBI investigating the multi-crore 3G spectrum scam involving the Communications Minister A. Raja and financial irregularities in the Commonwealth Games. Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde and Justice U.L. Bhat, who headed a Commission of Inquiry into illegal mining, had said that the CBI's help was necessary to investigate illegal mining activity in the State. He called upon freedom fighters, writers, religious heads and artists to participate in the padayatra to Bellary. The Left parties and the JD(S) have also decided to go on a padayatra against illegal mining, he said.
