Naidu demands ban on iron ore export
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday wanted the Andhra Pradesh government to emulate Karnataka and ban export and transportation of iron ore to check its illegal mining.
Addressing a press conference, Mr. Naidu said AP should be more concerned as illegal mining of iron ore and its export was much more than Karnataka, where it was estimated it to be 30 million tonnes.
Yet the government here made no attempt to either estimate what has been illegally exported or initiate action against the mining industry, he said and demanded a white paper on the entire issue. He wondered why the Congress government here was reluctant to act while the same party in Karnataka was carrying a relentless struggle against Tourism Minister and iron ore mine owner Gali Janardhan Reddy and his brother. Mr. Naidu recalled how his party has been highlighting the issue for the last six years.
