LDF members of civic body stage dharna

KANNUR: Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) councillors in the Kannur Municipality staged a dharna in front of the municipal office here on Monday opposing the ruling United Democratic Front's (UDF) stand on private buses entering the old municipal bus stand.

The protest was in support of the LDF youth organisations which had launched a stir demanding that all private buses to the northern side from the newly constructed Central Bus Terminal (CBT) should enter the old bus stand.

The UDF opposed the agitation saying that it was a violation of the agreement signed between the municipality and the builder of the CBT, which was built on a build-operate-transfer basis.

The UDF accused the police of succumbing to the demands of the LDF on the bus stand issue.
