Equipped with computers with Internet, printers, faxes, scanners, television and radio An amphitheatre-like hall with a seating capacity of 50 to facilitate briefing by officials NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday opened a hi-tech Media Facilitation Centre at Delhi Secretariat to provide journalists covering the State Government the facility to transmit news directly from the Secretariat. Commissioned at a cost of Rs.50 lakh, the centre would also facilitate briefing by ministers and bureaucrats when required. The media centre has been commissioned by renovating and upgrading the existing Press Room. It has been stocked with basic equipment such as computers with Internet facility, printers, faxes, scanners, photo-copy machines, television and radio. It would soon be equipped with wi-fi facility too. Seating arrangement The media centre has a big hall with a seating arrangement for about 50 people in front of a raised platform. The amphitheatre-like shape provides for easy interaction. The room has been designed to facilitate briefing by officials. Behind the addressing desk, a video wall has been provided with a drop-down screen for presentations and documentaries. An LCD projector has also been made available for such screenings. The media centre also has a separate room for Director of Information Publicity and chairman of the Delhi Press Accreditation Committee. There is also a sitting room for media persons with a round table with chairs and sofas, a coffee-vending machine and a showcase for reference books and other reading material. More for journalists The Chief Minister said the Delhi Government is also considering setting up a corpus fund of around Rs.5 crore to provide relief to journalists in need. The Government has also decided to amend the rules relating to medical facilities provided to journalists.
